Hey everyone back with Railroads Online! Today Hyce and I are back delivering our first iron hopper to the smelter! Unfortunately we are super broke still so this is possibly the saddest train we’ve ever built…

11.09.2023Railroads online does calculate curve friction as far as I remember… From the physics update? Kan keeps freaking out about downhill grades but I find in most cases the friction of the rail keeps it from yeeting itself.

11.09.2023Anyone else hear hyce say 0-5-0 locomotive? š
Myron Metanchuk
11.09.202339:27 That actually happens on the Botchan trains. Search "How 'Botchan Train' Turn Backā to see how they flip the locomotive without a turntable!

11.09.2023A few British engines had angled cylinders. Including the one of a kind Midlands railway Big bertha which was a specialised 0-10-0 banking engine and the British rail 9f which was a massive (for British standards but modest compared to things in America) 2-10-0 feieght engine. It was siad that angling the cylinders meant that all the drive rods were aligned with the piston on the power stroke meaning less power was lost through resistance in the rods.
It was also beneficial in the 9f as it allowed the engine to be a few feet shorter without having to make the cylinders smaller or the power stroke shorter. (I feel this is more likely than the first) allowing the engine to still fit on existing turn tables, engine sheds and adhere to British loading guage (which is smaller than us and EU)
A third benefit is for engines with internal cylinders as it allows them to be longer but not interfere with the axel in front of the powered wheel set.

09.09.2023Every time I watch a RRO video from you two it really makes me want to play it but I have no clue when it comes to computers. Reading the minimum and recommended requirements on steam might as well be rocket science to me although I'd be willing to bet my 4-5 year old laptop couldn't handle it. Are there laptops that could or do I need a console unit and as the father of 3 price is an object… so theres that too. I reckon for now I'll just have to live it out through you guys so keep up the great videos please!

09.09.2023I love watching Kan surf the train as they putt about….one thing though, is it not true that a train isn't a train unti the marker lights are put on? Can we talk breifly about marker lights for cabooses and locos sometime? I know the Brits use marker lights or lamps on the front of their engines, but we use marker lights differently and I know Hyce knows of these things, then after that maybe we can goof off with whistles?

09.09.2023kAN you should do a youtube search and check out a video of changing train wheels, it's a really cool process. There's actually two levels of gravity attachment – gravity is holding the truck on the wheels, and gravity is holding the car on the trucks

09.09.2023if you ever implement standard gauge it would be really nice to see St. Louis-San Francisco 1630 added. i worked on that engine at the Illinois Railway Museum with my grandfather, helping to retube the boiler and get it in working order.

08.09.2023I bought the Glenbrook as my first engine (besides Betsy) and it's awesome, it's whistle has a pitch between Betsy's and the Class 48's. The Glenbrook has a ton of power, not quite as much as the Class 48 though

07.09.202325:25 If you had cylinders on such a small engine perfectly horizontal and radial to the axle center, the cylinders (and drains) would be so low that you wouldn't really have a lot of clearance.

07.09.202310:48 some people would argue that the Union Pacific is the biggest railroad company in the country but I donāt know what to believe anymore.
38:21–39:13 I agree that they couldāve used two Johnson bars for the Ice scene in the Polar Express because in the movie, the engineer is just technically changing direction (reversing and forwarding), braking and flooring the throttle simultaneously! If they engineer was going from left to right, then he should have two Johnson bars for each side of driving wheels. But itās never been done before. That scene is both the worst and my favorite scene of the entire movie! Although it should be half an hour long like the classic Rankin/Bass movies because there isnāt that much to tell from the book.

07.09.20231:15 doesnt surprise me that you guys are thinking of doing a route from coal mine to the other side to refinery and iron works ive seen it done before should be interesting what you guys do for that route
