25.10.2023Throwing fire wood at the fire box still works. It is pretty easy: Just move the mouse pointer over the fire box until you get the fire statistics caption in the upper left corner of the screen. Fire stats -> throw wood -> get power. It still worked well with betsy yesterday.

25.10.2023Kan build a round house, it won’t look great from the back but excellent from the front, also you can use the caboose in multiplayer you or a friend can sit in it and flip switches back and add friction to the back of the train to help with derailments on hills

25.10.2023I think the 12th car is still on the mountain from the heisler video.

25.10.2023wait nvm

25.10.2023I love how the one thing he is most excited for is the caboose lol

25.10.2023Cabooses ensure you don't lose or leave any cargo behind, a red caboose is very noticeable if its missing

25.10.2023A tip from me. If you are bogged down, try to enable brakes on the last few cars, unhook them, and roll off with less weight. After that either leave the empty cars up at the mine or leave them on when you get the bogged down cars. Because you will have less weight due to the empty cars you will probably make it up again.

25.10.2023Its an actual practise called humping, they would have a 'hump' at the top of a freight yard which cars would be pushed over and then routed using gravity and break men, thought its mostly automated these days, and a practise that cant be easily used with modern air breaks hence the often seen 'do not hump' label on some rolling stock

25.10.2023I think I will be making my (eventual) additional engines. Still running the little coffee pot. And only have the logging camp and sawmill done. I did venture to smelter and iron ore mine to scope out. Did some trackage on the mountain tho. Only over 100 hrs and still in 1st gear. GRRRRRRRR

25.10.2023For gravity tracks check 'Freight shuntyard' Kijkhoek in the Netherlands. Built on a hill, they use gravity and braking systems to shunt the different trains. Very neat!
CptTiki
24.10.2023Does that fit a splitter right in front of it? you could store the Engine and the tender in the same shed.. and still use the same basic turn table
Noodles!
24.10.2023The light on top of the caboose is to let the engineer/driver know to stop the train, red light or to tell the engineer/driver to go,green light.
Alex Porter
24.10.2023Is it cabooses? Or cabeese?
Charles Welch
24.10.2023The cabooses function was to help the engine stop long heavy trains it’s not meant to replace it’s meant to help also if you want to get the same function with to steam engines by double heading or push pull configuration depending on if you also need extra power
Jake Hudgins
24.10.2023You can use the caboose in multiplayer to handle downhill braking. Braking from the back should reduce cars bumping together and derailing.
David Wilburn (A2 Custom)
24.10.2023Brakeman's caboose is a place for the brake operator to rest. He can come out when needed and adjust the brakes on all the cars as needed. In narrow gauge specifically the inclines were steeper and the brakes on all cars would have to be used going down hill so they didn't push the locomotive off the tracks. A switch operator could also ride in the caboose all though on cheaper railroad the brakeman and switch man were often the one person.

24.10.2023The caboose is used for slowing a train down we all know that. When Cabooses put on their brakes it tells the driver in the locomotive to slow or stop. Cabooses are also used for holding extra men to help with the train on long trips. And if the cars get detached from the locomotive the men in the caboose put on the cabooses brakes and the other cars brakes. Your welcome.

24.10.2023The fire place in the caboose is actually for heating and it also serves as a stove.
Thomas Brown
24.10.2023The purpose of a caboose was, at the time when steam engines were still used, they would usually get snuck onto and robbed. To solve this problem, railroads came up with the idea of keeping an armed guard on the train, and since they couldn't keep the guard in the locomotive, they decided to build him his own car and keep him (and the braking crew) in it.

23.10.2023i recommend purchasing an engine SPECIFICALLY for shunting 1-3 cars so that you dont have to navigate the large trains around a million switches. for example near the beginning of the video, you coulve used a shunter engine to get the caboose to the engine onto the mainline rather than backing an entire train down the line. plus, shunter engines would be especially useful for the multiplayer episodes.

23.10.2023The gauge of the track is probably 2 ft narrow gauge.

screamingslave99
23.10.2023we absolutely let cars run free in real life. hump tracks are more controlled but even in a switching bowl you can kick cars into the tracks and they just stop at the bottom of the bowl. its slowly getting phased out over time though as safety rules get more and more restrictive.

22.10.2023I want to see summer again

22.10.2023you should play with your friend more offten bc i like it when u guys play together in this game
Zymusic
22.10.2023This game has so much potential…they could add actual climate related difficulties and make it so you have to keep your caboose heated so your brakemen dont freeze, add snow plowing and some mechanics for switches to be more difficult to move when its snowy, telegraph stations for multiplayer switching operations so you can have people manning switches at a rail yard…all that i think would be possible with the current framework and would add soooo much to the experience. Love the content Kan!

North Coast Models
22.10.2023Yes, all cabooses have a road number and so does other rolling stock. It helps keep track of equipment.

22.10.2023Caboose is for the Conductor that controls the train then the brakeman rides with the conductor for switching track behind the train and for the steam locomotive Engineer operate the steam locomotive and the Fireman makes sure the fuel is in the loads the fire box and checks water gauge and watching on the left side of the track and the brakeman handles the switches plus you have flagmen to flag the train
Michael Stephens
22.10.2023You need to add a siding to park your freight cars on so you can move freight cars to unload freight cars and keep the main line open just in case another train is coming
Michael Stephens
22.10.2023That caboose is called the Bobber caboose

21.10.2023You not figured out why there's a hand car? It's there for if your engine/locomotive runs out of wood there's a box on it to load wood into pluss you can carry wood so fill the hand car with wood load up you hands then use the hand car to get to your train and use the wood to restart your fire.

21.10.2023There’s a narrow gauge railway in Wales where they have gravity trains where it is just freight cars going down the hill without an engine and some guys sitting on the cars holding the brakes to control the speed

21.10.2023What a great update! Caboose is brilliant, especially for multi as you said! And the snow just makes the whole place magical.
