Hey everyone and welcome back to more Railroads Online! Today we are sort of skipping ahead of the normal engine progression and going straight to the beast Heisler! This gear train is possibly the most powerful engine in the game and I’m tired of struggling to make it up the mountain pass to the iron mine! This is our last hope in order to keep progressing in the game!

17.04.2023For diesel engines it's a bogie
But for steam engines it's a chassie

17.04.2023Generators are used to provide electricity to the headlights you’d need a booster to provide more power aside from the main drivers

17.04.2023do they have a Shay locomotive in the game?
Gavin Stead
17.04.2023I think the reason for the spin is because the train is made for heavy stuff not light stuff

17.04.2023It’s not the fastest train he said but you are not looking at your fuel

16.04.2023The train you have is the most bugged train in the game in that the most reg you can apply is below 60%
GearedLoop 319
16.04.2023It has a V engine, a transmission, and sick burnout capabilities. I guess it really was ahead of it's time.

16.04.2023hi Gary chase here the reverser cut off is only to conserve steam it shortens the valve travel in the cylinders and it's like changing gears in your car to find out how to do it best in the Hisler go to cab view and look at the Jonson bar (reviser) just use the first 2 Noches and if you really want pulling power try a 3-truck shay. fyi I build 7.5-gauge live steam locomotives I have also worked on full size engines. Also worked for DISNEY WORLD in the engine shed /back shop

16.04.2023The geared locomotives are built for LOTS of torque at slow speeds

16.04.2023have you never realized that it shows the fuel right under the fire temp?

15.04.2023dude… the generator use the engine steam to work…. so it takes power

15.04.2023Not sure if it's modeled in this game or not, but the weird looking box on the back of the Heisler tender is actually the sand tank for operating in reverse.

15.04.2023That was crazy when you were on a straight the regulator was at 100%

15.04.2023It's too bad you can't switch the tracks and load cars using your mouse cursor so you don't have to leave your cab everytime.
Nope.
15.04.2023New train is slow but tons of torque
It’s not made to be fast

15.04.2023I know how you can get full throttle on the Heisler without slipping:
Accelerate very slowly

15.04.2023so not fair do to my lower pc all my train are so op i don't need the lovely hisler even my ureka is op right now i so wonted train truble like you got the ureka pulled 21 cars up 6% grade but only when the game hosted on certen low end pcs

15.04.2023Can you use two locomotives?
Because if so…
Plokman040
15.04.2023Shay's, Climax, and Heisler's were designed for Mountain climbing, that wheel slip is the physics engine not knowing how to handle the torque. The biggest reason that they weren't used as much is well that torque comes at the cost of speed. But most loads were easily manned by these locos in mountains. Funny thing the grade you are going up, yeah the UK still has the steepest hill on a railway not using rack and pinion gears. It is known as the Lickey Incline and even unloaded it is hard to climb.

12.04.2023I think u change the smokestacks because straight stacks shouldn't be used with wood fired locos because sparks would fly out IRL. on the climax and mogul and I'm sure some others, u'll see some super large stacks designed for wood-fired engines.

12.04.2023I did some digging on the reverser and it just determines how much steam is sent to the pistons. When beginning to move you want to have it high and if not climbing a gradient or just cruising along you can set it quite low to limit the steam flow and effectively increase your economy by quite a lot. So high speed cruising is high reg and low reverser.
Edit: The reverser determines the timing of steam sent to the pistons. The regulator is like a throttle lever that determines how much steam goes in. So high reg and low reverser send high pressure steam but only for a short amount of time. Full reverser sends the steam for the full stroke of the piston. Therefore less reverser means less power but also less steam consumed (less loss of water level).

12.04.2023I think you have the option now to bring a double load to the mine, and leave half of the full wagons there for later. Come back to pick up ore, when the mine has consumed everything, and switch over to the loaded wagons to unload them.

12.04.2023I love how the Heisler and the Shay and the Climax are designed. They don't directly rely on piston power straight to driving wheels. The Heisler has a driveshaft! Cool

12.04.2023Gear engines ftw. Literally made to conquer mountain trails. If it bogs down its either a 90° angle (lol) or not enough speed
Ethan Schmid
12.04.2023I know I’m late but don’t stop to put wood in the firebox to pick the fire temperature! There’s no need! You can still pick up power while in motion! And that does mean going uphill!

11.04.2023Glad that I found this video on the Heisler… I did not know about the air break and had a hard time getting it to stop… <Noob

11.04.2023The reverser represents the torque. Less reverser less movement of the pistons less steam usage. The regulator sets the steam pressure in the engine. More Pressure more torque more speed.
So you want full reverser and as much regulator as possible on climbs. On flat stretches you want the reverser as low as possible and as little steam as possible. to save up water and firewood. It's better to have more pressure than reverser to save water and wood.

11.04.2023That generator sound is actually accurate.
