Hey everyone and welcome back to more Railroads Online! Today we are going to buy and test the next cheapest engine in the list, the porter tier 2! This is the upgraded version of the starter engine with more tender space! I’ve brought @Dapper in so he can help test how it stands up against the original porter and haul some loads to the freight depot!

13.06.2022Should've named Betsy 2 Bessie! Both names sound similar but are distinguishable, lmao.

13.06.2022the 0-4-2 literally is just the 0-4-0 but with more fuel storage.

13.06.2022I hope I get a computer soon. I love trains so much and I know I’d spend hours upon hours in this game. But I can’t because I can’t afford a computer. Hopefully one day I can get it. Maybe the game will be fully done and with a lot more engines and better mechanics by then.

13.06.2022So the Engineer Drives the Train, the Conductor is the one responsible for the cars behind the train. General Handbrake rules are 10% +1 Handbrakes set for the total amount of cars depending on grade ( more , never less) so 10 cars would be 2 Handbrakes.

13.06.2022Man you forget about the generator and compressor on Betsy 2
Bill
13.06.2022I hope they fix the loco's. Betsy seems way to good for a dinky starter engine.
MDM Gaming
13.06.2022It took 56 seconds for the whole train to pass
Sam Gu3
13.06.2022eventually you could just make a huge continuous loop train interlaced with engines so you never have to make "trips"
TheUndeadSqwerl
13.06.2022Engine in the back is sposed to have a higher speed/reg then the frunt engine

13.06.2022Did you know that Betsy's made from a company know as PORTER no wonder she's a beast.
Migotek
11.06.2022Game like this, but with an ability to create your own trains would be amazing. Just like in Scrap Mechanic with mods.

11.06.2022Did you guy see the respawns button in inventory it's faster to the spawn I use it if I'm going to meet my trains at the spawn to switch tracks

11.06.20222:25 I bet that little tiny locomotive cant really pull very many cars it can probably only carry one small passenger car along with the tender loaded with people and thats it
Julie Mathews
11.06.2022Kan you are right the enginer actually does change the switches
Aiden Quiroz
11.06.2022It’s actually train operator the train conductor is the one who opens the doors for the passengers
Quin Law
11.06.2022Cool, that test literally just proved u wasted ur money and should of bought the engine built for power
Some Random
11.06.20229:15 nope conductor is the one that fix air brakes, fixes switches and couplings , engineer is the driver.
Ruca PT
11.06.2022The test doesn´t look correct. By the footage the ground does not seem to be leveled and actually looks like Betsy was pulling on lower terrain. It´s also noticeable by the car wich by way the helped making Betsy 2 to a sudden brake and easily pulled back.
The final result may be the same but I believe we would see more struggle between the engines on flat leveled ground and also straight tracks on both sides may make a difference.

11.06.2022seeing your videos of this game has pretty much convinced me to buy it

11.06.2022I am big train fan and this is a must for me. I do hope that devs will continue working on it.

10.06.2022Omg I love this! Everything feels so real with it being manual. I'd watch this every day! Keep up the great work!

10.06.202212:23 on some express routes in Britain, steam locomotives had a little retractable scoop at the bottom, similar to a water bomber (e.g. Canadair CL-415). There were also water troughs in the middle of the track at certain points along the route, so when the locomotive was over these troughs the scoop would be lowered and the water refilled.

10.06.2022It took nearly a minute for the whole train to pass you that first time 58 seconds by my count.

10.06.2022More weight=more traction

10.06.2022This entire episode I got Dumbo vibes. In particular the Casey Jr. scene where, as you described it, the entire train gives him slack then just KICKS him forward!!!!!!
That also just reminded me you missed a chance at calling your second porter Betsy Jr.
I'm just imagining the mill owners are just like "WHAT THE HECK!? YOU USUALLY DO LIKE……TEN CARS WHERE DID YOU GET ALL THESE!?"

About the "slack" problem you spoken about.
1) I think and correct me if iam wrong the Leader betsy should be the one driving slower than the betsy in the back so you keep the cargo waggons pulled together and avoid slack complelty.
(of course in a reasonable limit)
2) If you do it the other way around like the betsy in the back driving with less power than the leader betsy than you would create massive amount of tension on each carriage.
So if the leader betsy then brakes first you would in theory getting a "braking wave" sent in the backwards direction.
(similar to traffic jam with cars where the "leader car" brakes and every other car behind it has to brake to)
Braking under condition 1)
Would mean that the leader betsy should be able to brake without creating slack as the waggons are pushed together already wich also should mean you not creating any slack with braking.
Of course this only can work if brakes are applied gradualy and not instantly to maximum force.

09.06.2022It's the other way around

09.06.2022There's actually a porter on static display at the train Depot at Anchorage Alaska where I live.
And in Fairbanks Alaska at pioneer Park, there's a restored operating porter they take out in the summers I wish I could volunteer at that museum so I can get the chance to drive it and maintain it.
It's actually this game that revived my interest in trains. Also when you and dapper do a video together in this game, it creates a very antidepressing video fit to treat depression.

09.06.2022You also could put on reverse to slow down.

09.06.2022If this is like real life, I have huge respect now for train engineers and conductors. Really just anyone that works on trains

Powerful Pancake
09.06.2022You guys talking about having a row of running water towers to fill up moving trains reminded me of this video I saw about a railway that tried to have a way to fill up engines while they moved. They came up with a design for a tender that had a trough that could be lowered. The tracks would have a shallow tube placed in between the rails and as the engine ran through they would lower the trough and it would scoop water into the tender.

09.06.2022they learned in to put the helper in the middle
Nope.
09.06.2022That moment when the devs fix Betsy’s strength.

08.06.2022Bro don't you like compare the traction effort with each engine? You know it litterly says that with every steam engine right? That's how you know which one is more or less powerful of how much it can pull
Samuel Clark
08.06.2022The Betsy 2 would make a good rescue train

08.06.2022the littel engine that could
Nicholas Whitfield
08.06.2022Lol, the logic in the beginning during the tug-of-war is completely wrong. Heavier locomotives have greater tractive effort due to the increase in traction. CSX for example specifically specs their locomotives to be heavier than the standard version of that model from GE in order to increase their pulling power.
Nicholas Whitfield
08.06.2022I don't know how it works in-game, but in real life you would almost never need to put brakes on every single car you're setting out. Not unless they're on a VERY steep hill. On largely flat yards you might only put a couple of brakes on a 100-car cut you're yarding.
TrainSimUSA
08.06.2022My first line went straight up the valley and to the right. Then I was re doing all the track and did basically the same as you but my switches are at the bottom of the hill.
