Hey everyone and welcome back to more Railroads Online! Today we are finally buying a new engine to add to our train empire! Since there are so many different factors to each of the train engines I decided to buy engines in order of cheapest to most expensive so the first engine we’re going to buy and test with Kosmo is the Eureka! @Kosmonaut

31.07.2022I've said before YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT THE MOGUL

31.07.2022the problem isnt the eureka, the problem is trying to go up 5% gradients. if you stick to 1-2% the eureka will happily haul 40 cars! that's a bit overkill thoug, but if you want to haul 20 cars with the eureka then even 4% is going to be a problem

31.07.2022I'm not sure what the rolling stock selection looks like, but if there isn't a caboose already they need to add one, it would be a huge help for carrying crew safely and realistically.
Yakubutsu
31.07.2022You should take the trains

31.07.2022REMOTE CONTROLLED TRAIN OMFFFFGMMMMMMMMMMMMMMHHHHH

31.07.20222:10 I don't want to be that guy but I'm going to be that guy it's not called a cockpit it's called a cab. A cockpit is where you fight roosters against each other. Or what people who don't fly planes call the cab of an airplane
Keima Hane
31.07.2022Not sure if you got the answer for Red and Green lights on back. That is Left (Port) and Right (Starboard) as used on ships. Guess they just went with the maritime standard for showing which side of the train you were looking at

31.07.2022Hi,
An idea, a race between all locomotives in speed and distance 🤔

31.07.20226:25 The Eureka is moonwalking
Andrew Manson
31.07.2022In regards to the Eureka's generator, it does nothing for your horsepower. Instead, you're using high pressure steam from the boiler to spin a dynamo, which in turn powers the electrical systems (such as lights) on the locomotive and the railcars.

26.07.2022Could you maybe do some tutorial videos about railroad online – like how to build grear curves, etc.?
Mr. Bl0ckm4nn
26.07.2022In North America it is very rare for rail grade to be over 2% on a standard gauge mainline, though that may not be the case for a narrow gauge logging route. If you can, try to see if you can use the foundations to create embankments that are 2% or less so u don't have a hard of time getting to the logging camp

26.07.2022Maybe eureka would be better for downhill & rescue stuff
Jackson Carter
26.07.2022it is a passenger train
Mr llamaton
26.07.2022Eureka, it looks like A passenger engine probably is
Feenix
26.07.2022you could use it in tandem with betsy for long hauls. let betsy pull the hills and get it moving and use the eureka to cover distance.

26.07.20221800s, no stinking safety regulations.
Ben Alcantara
26.07.2022I think the Eureka is a passenger train
Mike King
26.07.2022The generator does not have anything to do with how well the locomotive works, who made this game knows nothing about how a steam loco works.
MasterZoharu
26.07.2022You can always find Betsy. Just follow her tracks.
DatGuy Miller
22.07.2022The compressor uses steam pressure, generator doesn't add to power and (for engines that have it) just use steam to make electricity for the gear locos
The Trainspotter From Tauranga
22.07.2022As someone who hasn't played this game in multiplayer mode yet, I haven't seen the silly incidents for myself, like the engine driver being stuck in a wagon yet somehow still able to drive the engine.
Incidentally the only engines I have in my game are the 0-4-0 and 0-4-2 Porters; the latter being the one with extra fuel capacity.
Argo Roodla
22.07.2022eureka is an awasome looking engine its yesh good for going quickly from point A to point B without carts and it works well as an display engine too cuz its one of the best looking ones

22.07.2022Darn it kAN! Now I have to watch hours of of footage to get the full story! Well, time to binge.
Steam Engine Studios
22.07.2022The Eureka seems like a good candidate for a scouting engine, maybe if/when a need for track maintenance is introduced into the game, or perhaps if there was ever a runaway and you had to go find/rescue the missing engine, or if you were building a new line, or scoping out potential roundhouse locations, it might be a good idea to have a engine that can be used for that kind of work. The Eureka has a good top speed when it's running light, and it has a very high fuel capacity, so it could be out on the line for a longer time period without having to return to the depot to refuel, which makes it a perfect scouting locomotive.

22.07.2022the red means that to warn people that the trains stop, green means the locomotives are in move.
Daniel Worthy
22.07.2022The generator is not a turbo. The generator your referring too is a dynamo. Which is a steam driven electric turbine for powering lights. The reason why the engine is having a hard time because it’s a 4-4-0.
Coal Country
22.07.2022I'm sure it has been harped on before, but kind of a good generalization with steam locomotives: smaller driving wheels=more lower end torque and less high speed. Taller driving wheels=less lower end starting power but higher top speed.
The Eureka was not necessarily designed for stopping and starting a long cut of cars like a lower drivered locomotive was for. It was originally designed for hauling a moderate steam of cars, most likely passenger cars, over a longer distance. For that, it does great.
Another thing to note is, consider the time period she was built in. They weren't really pulling super long trains at a time. I doubt Eureka and Palisade ever hauled twenty cars trains with their 4-4-0's in service.
That's the thing about locomotives, each one is designed for a different purpose in mind. Once you start carrying over longer distances, you will really see it shine.
Also, irl, a generator, usually called a dynamo on a steam locomotive, is uses steam to make electricity for things like the headlight and such. They don't do anything at all as far as making the locomotive perform "better" per se.
Nope.
22.07.2022Good train series
Good job👍
Rob Gibson
22.07.2022The Eureka appears to be modeled after one of the most famous still-running steam locomotives, the Walter E. Disney which generally runs at the Magic Kingdom in Florida. This locomotive is a 4-4-0 with the same boiler shape and manufactured at the Baldwin Locomotive Works with the round emblems on the front of the locomotive.
I am not a super-fan of railroads at the moment, but I am interested in them. I am particularly interested in the Walt Disney transportation systems.
Leeland Nimtz
21.07.2022Ok guys the generator is for electrical only, which means it runs the lights. In the early days of steam when they converted from oil burning lamps, on the train for lights to electric light bulbs. They needed a way to get electrical power. Thus, a steam powered generator was added to create power. for the lights. It had nothing to do with the turbo to increase power. The generator worked by steam spinning a prop connected to a shaft that spun the generator. Creating electrical power.

21.07.202218:09 Nice.
golden nightmare
21.07.2022The Eureka is a disappointment lol
Foxy 1525
21.07.2022I mean 40 waggons are too much for that time era of trains. Maybe uhm 10-14 would have been okay
Scott RC1
21.07.2022What did you mean by "latching" the tender? I can't figure it out. Later: It looks like you just have to add a pin on the engine side?
Scott RC1
21.07.2022What does the generator do? What does the compressor do? I can't figure out how to get the brakes to work. How do you work the brakes? Later: Figured out that you have to open the hand valve on the upper right. This apparently get the compressor going, and now you can use the brakes. Still not clear on the purpose of the generator. I have it turned up to 100 percent, though.

21.07.2022Funny you guys got this amazing Betsy and my Betsy can only pull two cars before struggling
Ratheon Hudson
21.07.2022The Chronicles of Betsy, she's still got it. Hauling massive loads

21.07.202229:18 Is perfect. "Run free, Betsy. Be free!"

21.07.2022The flying duch man Tain was the fastest steam train ever built but now we use electric train that is faster than the fastest steam train ever built.

19.07.2022From a engineer i can tell you the whole generator talk was nonsense
Jason Hand
19.07.2022i imagine the coloured lights is similar to ocean going ships and warships signifying port/left and starboard/right it would also help at night from distance to determine which direction the train was travelling and avoiding collisions with stopped trains when changing points.
Leslie Fulton
19.07.2022Eureka (privately owned and still running to this day) was designed for Passenger service, not freight.
Zerosen89
19.07.2022Now the Betsy is super weak, it can't too heavy of a load, like with the logs, it cam only carry 5, it couldn't move with six.
xevil bunny
19.07.2022I thought red is for rear an green for the front?
Wesley stuff
19.07.2022The Eureka locomotive is a 4-4-0 and 4-4-0s were made during the civil war so do not expect much from the Eureka
Xyphod
19.07.2022I love how Betsy can pull an engine twice it’s size
Rahim
19.07.2022Red and green are Port and Starboard or green = right red = left is so you know which way the train is traveling at night time

19.07.2022Ok since I keep getting comments about it we did remember to turn off the tender brakes I just didn't include that in the edit.
